Programs That Assist with Insulin Costs for People Who Have Part D

If you cannot afford your insulin, you may want to show this list to your doctor to discuss alternatives to your current insulin.   You can call the programs for more information. More information is also available at rxassist.org and needymeds.org.  (Accurate on 2/1/2016 ) Sometimes a coupon is available even if you do not qualify for a program.  Check the websites or call.

Long Acting

Lantus vial (Sanofi)—Program income limit is 250% of the Federal Poverty Level. Persons with Part D coverage considered on exception basis. 888-847-4877

Lantus Solostar pen (Sanofi)– Program income limit is 250% of the Federal Poverty Level. Persons with Part D coverage considered on exception basis. Copay coupon available, but not for Medicare beneficiaries.   888-847-4877

Levemir (Novo Nordisk)— Program will help if you are in coverage gap (donut hole) and income is at or below 300% Federal Poverty Level.  866-310-7549

Levemir FlexPen (Novo Nordisk)—no assistance program listed. Copay coupon available but not for Medicare beneficiaries. 866-310-7549

Fast Acting

Apidra vial (Sanofi)—Program income limit is 250% of the Federal Poverty Level. Persons with Part D coverage considered on exception basis. 888-847-4877

Humalog vial (Lilly)—considered on a case by case basis for those with Part D. Income requirements vary. Call 800-545-6962.

Novalog vial or Flex pen (Novo Nordisk)— Program will help if you are in coverage gap (donut hole) and income is at or below 300% Federal Poverty Level. Copay coupon available but not for Medicare beneficiaries.  866-310-7549

OTC (Over the Counter)

Over the Counter insulins do not need a prescription but are usually covered by drug plans if you have a prescription. They are not quite as fast as the newer insulins above, but work well for a lot of people and are much cheaper. Talk to your doctor about replacing Novalog or Humalog with Novolin R, Humulin R or Relion R.

Fast Acting OTC

Humulin R (Lilly)—Program is for people with no insurance, however those with Part D considered on case by case basis. Must be under 65.  All 800-545-6962
